About

Subdivision is a research platform founded by Adam Vukmanov and Julia Koerner. In June 2009 they both received their architectural master degrees with honours in Greg Lynn's studio at University of Applied Arts, Vienna. Since then they have been living and working between Vienna, Los Angeles and finally London, where they are currently based. Within their collaboration they explore and investigate organic morphologies, juxtaposed between real and digital space. Their platform works as a transit laboratory of architecture and design influenced by cutting edge computational and fabrication industries as well as cultural, natural and technological environment. They are analysing form and structure of patterns, geometries as well as processes of mutations and phenomenons found across landscapes of biodivers ecosystems. Julia and Adam are currently teaching at AA visiting school in Paris and at Department of Theoretical and Applied Aesthetics, School of Architecture, Lund, Sweden and have been visiting critics at Sci-arch, Otis College in Los Angeles and dieAngewandte in Vienna. Their work has been widely published and exhibited across Europe and US. Further, Julia is enrolled in EMTECH postgraduate program at the Architectural Association and is a Project Consultant at Ross Lovegrove studio while Adam works as a Project Manager at ACME architects in London.

Julia and Adam were engaged in a research project which was a part of MAK SCHINDLER scholarship - 6 months residency program at Mackey apartments (designed and built by Austrian architect Rudolph Schindler in 1939).
